Welcome to Group SMS

• How it works?

The group owner is assigned a dedicated phone number. Messages sent to this number will be broadcast to all group members. This dedicated phone number is a real US phone number so anyone with a cell phone (even a feature phone) can participant in the group chat over SMS. You don’t need to have the TalkU app to join the group SMS.

• Is it free?

It is always free to participant in the group SMS as long as you have a text plan from your phone company. Even better, you can download the TalkU app to chat in group without using your text plan.

• Can I leave the chat room?

You can leave the chat room at any time by simply replying #exit over SMS.

• How do I set my name?

Send #name YOURNAME over SMS. You can change your name at any time.

• Will I be spammed?

No. As soon as you leave the chat room, you will never receive any messages from the groups.

• Can I receive photos, videos and emoji?

Yes, if you are using a smartphone. Photos or videos you receive are embedded in a link. You can click the link to view the photos or videos. But, majority feature phones do not support embedded links so you cannot view photos or videos.

We strongly recommend you get the TalkU app so you can receive photos, videos and emoji directly.

• Can I share my photos and videos?

If you do not have the TalkU app, you cannot send photos or videos in the group. Please download the TalkU app and have fun sharing photos and videos with friends.

• Some messages are missing, why?

A large and active group may have lots of of SMS sent or received. Carriers typically impose restrictions in delivering SMS to large number of recipients. As a result, some SMS may be dropped occasionally.

We strongly recommend you get the TalkU app so you will never miss any messages.

At this moment, TalkU is not available on Windows Phone, BlackBerry and feature phones.

If you subscribe to a service like iCould, you can remote-wipe your phone. After that, you really don’t need do anything special. Otherwise, you can take the following steps to stop TalkU working on the lost device:
1. Install the TalkU app on your new phone (assuming your new phone has kept the same phone number)
2. Activate TalkU with the same phone number
3. When TalkU is activated on your new phone, you will see a warning message:

Selecting “Deactivate Other Devices” will stop TalkU working on you lost device.
